Cook Memorial Public Library and Aspen Drive Library Present Epic Quest

Welcome to Epic Quest 2018!
Buried within the walls of Cook Memorial Public Library and the Aspen Drive Library are untold treasures, valuable tools and artifacts dating from ancient through modern times which have been collected by warriors, scholars and adventurers. Discovering  these hidden treasures will allow you to unlock the Wisdom of the Ages (and might also help you with homework.) The Guardians of this valuable stockpile have trained for years to help you navigate through it and unlock the secret codes used to organize it. These learned Guardians are called Librarians and they will help you navigate your expedition but YOU must find the answers for yourself. BE WARNED: An ancient curse will befall those who cheat in this task.

GRAND PRIZE: Upon completion of the Quest, FOUR lucky Treasure Hunters will win a $100 gift certificates for Amazon.com. The names of the winners will be drawn randomly on Monday, October 15, 2018, by the Library Director from the names of all who have turned in their completion sheets by the deadline of October 14.

1st: Official Treasure Hunter credentials: If you don’t already have a Cook Memorial Public Library District card, we highly recommend that you get your own before beginning this Epic Quest. You will also need it in your future adventures and for homework. (If you do not live in the Cook Library District, we will give you a guest pass for Epic Quest.) Stop by the Check Out desk at either library to get a library card.

2nd:  Start with a clean slate: If you owe any overdue fines, stop at the Check Out desk at either library, fill out a green form and we will erase up to $10 of overdue fines for those in grades 6 – 12 ONLY between October 5 – 14, 2018.

3rd: Go to the Adult Reference Desk at Cook Park in Libertyville or the Reference Desk at the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills to begin Epic Quest 2018 anytime between Friday, October 5 and Sunday, October 14.

Note to parents: In order to participate, your child should have his/her own library card. He/She will need your help with that task. Their first library card is free, but a replacement card costs $2.  A parent’s signature is needed  for those under age 14.  If you’re older than 14 and your parent isn’t with you, you will need to show something official (like a piece of mail) with your name and current address.

After that step, this Epic Quest CAN and SHOULD be done without parental help. We want the Questers to ask the library staff their questions. We want them to discover the library on their own. The Quest will take about an hour to complete.

The Epic Quest forms will be available starting Friday, October 5, 2018, at the Adult Reference Desks at Cook Park Library in Libertyville and at the Reference Desk at the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills. All quests must be completed by 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2018. Students may come in anytime between those dates to do the quest.
