The State of Illinois released its newly updated Illinois School Report Card on October 31, 2018. This report card is aligned with our nation’s federal education law, the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Under ESSA, states are charged with creating a plan to ensure every child is learning and on the path to college and career readiness. Plans must include long-term goals, challenging academic standards and assessments, support for low-performing schools, and universal indicators of school quality.
In order to assess each school’s progress toward meeting ESSA goals, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) first identifies academic indicators, school quality indicators, and student subgroups. ISBE then measures the performance of each student subgroup in a school across each academic and school quality indicator to generate a school’s composite score. Schools are ranked based on their composite scores, and this comparative ranking is the school’s “official designation” for the Illinois School Report Card.
All of our schools earned either an Exemplary or Commendable Designation!
These are the top two designation rankings from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Our designations reflect the following achievements:
- Two of our schools (Hawthorn Elementary North and Hawthorn Middle School North) are performing in the top 10% of all schools in Illinois, as defined by the Illinois State Board of Education.
- None of our student subgroups are underperforming.
We are fortunate to partner with a community of involved and supportive parents. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to the success of all students! Below is additional information that was shared with our district families.
