Hawthorn District #73 serves approximately 3,600 students. Individual Hawthorn schools have received both the "Excellence in Education" and "Drug Free Schools" awards from the U.S. Dept. of Education. Students score well above average state scores on the ISAT. Copies of the School Report Card are available.

Where We Are

Hawthorn School District 73 is located at the intersection of Illinois Route 60 (Town Line Rd.) and Aspen Dr. in Vernon Hills, Illinois. All of our schools are within approximately 1/2 mile of each other.

Attendance Area

In general, our attendance area includes the following (Note: These descriptions are general. For information about a specific home address, please call the District Office at 847-990-4200.):

  • All Vernon Hills addresses, except for a portion of the Deerpath subdivision
  • Eastern edge of Mundelein
  • Southern portion of Libertyville, approximately south of Golf Rd.
  • East to St. Mary's Rd. (Mettawa)

North and South Neighborhoods

Hawthorn is divided into North and South Neighborhoods. Our North Neighborhoods lie north of Route 60 (Townline Road) and west of Lake Charles. Our South Neighborhoods lie south of Route 60 (Townline Road) and east of Lake Charles.

Hawthorn's four elementary schools are schools of choice, with enrollment based on space availability. Our North Neighborhood families may choose to attend Elementary North, Aspen or Townline elementary schools. Our South Neighborhood families may choose to attend Elementary South, Aspen or Townline elementary schools.

Students in grades 6 through 8 attend Middle North if they live in the North Neighborhoods or Middle South if they live in the South Neighborhoods.
