PARCC Results

Hawthorn is dedicated to inspiring your child to embrace learning in an ever changing world.  Since 2010, we have been working to align our instruction to the changes in education across the country.  We are fully aligned with the New Illinois Standards for Learning and are working to become aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards and upcoming changes to Illinois Social Studies standards. These higher and more specific standards have required changes in what we teach and how we teach it.  Your child is also being expected to demonstrate his or her learning in new ways.  Illinois has joined with other states that have implemented the Common Core Standards in administering our new statewide assessment, PARCC.  PARCC, the Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Career, is an online assessment of English Language Arts and Math, much like the previous ISAT test, which Illinois no longer administers.

The first PARCC assessment given in the Spring of 2015 was given in two parts. The Performance Based Assessment and the End Of Year Assessment scores have been aggregated together to determine the scores in your child’s score report that you are receiving today.  Hawthorn is analyzing the data that has been provided to us on our students by the PARCC assessment.  This first round of testing reflects changes in our curriculum, instruction and assessment and therefore, we will be using it as a baseline for data in the coming years on our students’ achievement.

Hawthorn continues to be committed to the idea that a quality Assessment System of student achievement and growth incorporates multiple forms of assessments throughout the school year and over the course of a students’ journey at Hawthorn and beyond.  We are working to ensure that our system as a whole is aligned to the goals stated in our strategic plan which emphasize growth and achievement not only academically, but also in the areas of social, emotional and physical wellness.  The PARCC assessment is one piece of data by which we evaluate the programming we offer to our students and their families.

Thank you for your support and please do not hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns.
