Petition filing paperwork is now available for the April 4, 2017 school board election. Packets may be picked up at the District Office, 841 West End Court, Vernon Hills, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Forms may also be accessed through the Lake County Clerk at www.election.il.gov.
The Board of Education is comprised of seven members and three (3) seats will be open for the April 4, 2017 election. Candidates elected will serve a four-year term expiring in April 2021.
Eligibility requirements to serve as a Board of Education member include: on the date of election you must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years old, a registered voter, a resident of the state of Illinois and the Hawthorn Community School District 73 for at least one year. School Board elections are nonpartisan and candidates do not indicate a political party affiliation. As required by the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act, a “Statement of Economic Interest” is required to be filed with petition papers. Candidates must also abided by School Board Policy 8:25 Distribution and Display of Community Flyers and Posters as adopted by the Board of Education on January 11, 2016.

Key consolidated election calendar dates are:
- September 20, 2016: First day to circulate nomination papers for the April election.
- December 12, 2016: First day to file nomination papers in the office of the local election official for the April election.
- December 19, 2016: Last day to file nomination papers in the office of the local election official for the April election.
- April 4, 2017: Election Day
