Back to School Letter from Cook Memorial Public Library District
Michael McFarlin

It's back to school time again! We know everyone is eager to get back to learning, and the Cook Memorial Public Library District is here to provide resources to you and your students. As you may know, many Hawthorn students come to the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills after school and while we are excited to welcome them back, we want everyone to be aware of the services the library is able to provide.

We welcome everyone, however because of our limited space and restrictions due to COVID-19, we are unable to accommodate as many students as we have in years past.

Our current service model follows state and local public health recommendations for the safety of everyone in our community.

Here are a few things to expect when you visit:

  • Masks, properly worn to cover the mouth and nose, are required for everyone over the age of two while in the children and teen areas and for all students throughout the library.
  • Seating is limited within the library in order to maintain social distancing; if capacity is reached, patrons will be asked to wait outside until space becomes available.
  • There are four computers in the children’s department, each with a one-hour limit. Printers are also available.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the library from 2-6 p.m. on school days.

Please keep in mind that, unlike schools, the library does not track visitors and is unable to conduct contact tracing.

The Library has a wide variety of print and digital resources to support learning at all levels. From tools to help you find just the right reading materials to a wide array of online databases to help with homework, our staff are always here to help. Find more at www.cooklib.org.

As always, our aim is to be responsive to the needs of our diverse community while protecting the health and safety of our patrons and staff.
