Hawthorn District 73 provides both breakfast and lunch through our food service provider, Arbor Food Service.
Hawthorn 73 participates in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). The district contracts with Arbor Food Service to implement this program. The NSLP is a federally assisted meal program operating in public and private non-profit schools. The program was established under the National School Lunch Act. It is administered at the federal level by the USDA and at the state level by the Illinois State Board of Education.
All children enrolled at a participating school may purchase meals. Children from families with incomes at or below 130 percent of the poverty level are eligible for free meals. Those with incomes between 130 and 185 percent of the poverty level are eligible for reduced-price meals, for which students can be charged no more than 40 cents. Parents must complete an application. Applications are available in the PowerSchool parent portal. The application is reviewed and verified in order to qualify. Applications are available after July 1st each year.
