The Puertas Latino Culture Club students are sponsoring a new event at Mundelein High School, 1350 W. Hawley Street in Mundelein, this year called Dias Festivos on Saturday, Dec. 14th! This bilingual open house style event is aimed at bringing our Spanish speaking families into the school to celebrate the spirit of the season with their children to take part in family friendly activities that highlight some of the holiday and seasonal traditions of Latinos and Latin Americans. For more information on the event activities, scroll lower in this email.
More About the Event
This is a free event, and all are welcome to enjoy the festivities with their families, including staff members. We will have activities for children ages 4 and up. Due to the heavy Catholicism of the region, the Christmas holidays are an important part of many Latin American cultures and often start near the beginning of December and run through Los Reyes Magos (3 Kings Day) in January. Different Latin American countries have different ways of celebrating these holidays throughout Central and South America. As such, our festivities are highlighting a variety of customs for families to learn about these various traditions. For example:
– Holiday Themed Loteria
– Luminaria/Farolito making
– Nacimiento coloring
– Nochebuena/Poinsettia ornament making
– Letters to Santa/Papa Noel/Los Reyes Magos
– Cookie decorating
– Traditional Mexican Ponche
Families are welcome to come any time during the 5:00-8:00pm event time. Activities will be run in both Spanish and English. Stay for a little while, or stay for a long while! The Puertas students are excited to welcome you and your families during this time of year!
