At the January 14 board meeting, Hawthorn School District 73 appointed Vernon Hills resident George Fievet III as a new Board of Education member. He was appointed to fill the vacant position created when Julie Simpson resigned in December of 2018 to become a member of the Lake County Board. He will serve until April 2, 2019, the date Ms. Simpson’s term on the board was set to expire. He has filed to run for a four-year term.
“We are so pleased to have an IT leader with more than 20 years of experience join our team,” said Hawthorn District 73 Interim Superintendent Mark Friedman. “He will hit the ground running as we move into the second half of the school year.”
Mr. Fievet currently serves as a senior technical manager at AIM Specialty Health in Deerfield, Illinois, where he has held multiple positions over the years. He started as a developer in 2006, was promoted to manager in 2007 and has continued to receive additional responsibilities as manager up to the present. Prior to joining AIM, he worked at Teradyne, Inc. as a software developer from 1998 to 2006. He started as a platform development engineer and later became a customer applications engineer.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from Iowa State University, and a Master of Business Administration with a specialization in organizational behavior from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
He and his wife, Julie, have lived in Vernon Hills for more than 12 years. They have two sons who both attend a school in Hawthorn District 73. He is active with the Boy Scouts of America, presently serving as the Cubmaster for Cub Scout Pack 273 in Vernon Hills.
