Hawthorn Recognition Program Guidelines

The Board of Education aims to celebrate those who contribute significantly to Hawthorn's tradition of excellence, including teachers, staff, students, and community members. To achieve this, the Board established a recognition program that highlights these contributions during monthly board meetings.

Anyone can submit a nomination for this award. The District 73 Recognition Committee reviews all submissions, though not every nomination will result in recognition by the Board. To nominate someone, please complete the form linked below.

Nomination Criteria for Recognition Program

Nominees should exhibit the following qualities:

  • Outstanding Dedication and Service: The individual shows exceptional commitment and goes above and beyond in their role.

  • Inspiration and Excellence: The nominee excels in their duties and motivates others to achieve excellence.

    • For Teachers: Demonstrates creativity and innovation in lesson planning and teaching methods, inspiring students to surpass their expectations. Also recognized are teachers who embrace PLC principles and achieve high learning outcomes for all students.

    • For Staff: Shows creativity and innovation in performing their job, inspiring and motivating the school community. This includes implementing innovative practices that lead to measurable improvements.

    • For Students: Demonstrates academic improvement, a passion for learning, or exemplary behavior and attitude. The program also recognizes students who excel in competitions and achieve high academic honors.

    • For Community Members: Makes significant contributions to Hawthorn through time, actions, talents, and dedication, or by leveraging external resources to support the District.

  • Overall Impact: The nominee should go above and beyond to positively impact Hawthorn’s students, staff, culture, and environment.

Awards

  • Students: Eligible to receive a certificate and a medal.

  • Staff/Teachers/Community Members: May receive a certificate or a brick inscribed with: “Big Things Are Built One Brick at a Time” from the Board.

  • Students/Staff/Teachers/Community Members: May receive a custom Hawthorn keychain that recognizes those who were nominated for their efforts and contributions but are not selected for recognition at the board meeting.

This awards program aims to create meaningful moments of recognition, inspiring others through ongoing opportunities to honor those who significantly contribute to the excellence of our schools.
