Hawthorn Board Highlights - Nov. 16, 2021 Meeting
Thank you to the staff members from Hawthorn Middle School South and others who attended the Hawthorn School Board meeting on Nov. 16, 2021, to show their support for their colleagues and the Board. The Board heard the School Improvement Plan for Hawthorn Middle School South and voted on a motion to increase substitute teacher daily compensation.
During the Recognition portion of the meeting, the Board recognized six students that earned an opportunity to compete at the State level in either golf or cross country. The students recognized for golf were Henrik L., Jake L. and Kenzie C. The students recognized for cross country were Natalie H., Maya P. and Karanveer P.
Additionally, the Board also recognized Elementary North Nurse Lisa Frazier-Sweeney for her dedicated commitment to Hawthorn students.
Following these recognitions, the Board heard a presentation on the School Improvement Plan from administrators and staff from Middle School South. The presentation emphasized the importance of using assessment data to inform instruction. To achieve the District goals, Middle South has implemented Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) to enhance the quality of education students receive. Up for vote at the meeting was a recommendation to increase the daily rate for substitutes from the current $102 per day to $120, decrease the number of days needed to begin earning the Long-Term Rate from 26 days to 15 days, and make the Long-Term Rate retroactive to the beginning of the assignment. The Board voted unanimously to accept the recommendation.
The next board meeting will take place at the District Office on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021.
