About 60 veterans attended the annual Veterans Day Breakfast sponsored by the Middle School South Student Council on November 9. Student Council President Kayla L., Middle School South Principal Robert Natale and School Board President Sonali Patil welcomed the veterans.
“Democratic virtues are founding principles of the country,” said Ms. Patil. “But democracy cannot exist without freedom and freedom cannot exist without the selfless service and devotion of all our veterans. Thank you to all our service men who took the time to join us so that our younger generation can see what a hero looks like and hear your stories.”
In addition to breakfast, the veterans enjoyed performances by the school’s chorus, orchestra and band. Following the performances, Student Council members and social studies students asked the veterans questions to learn more about them. The veterans, several of whom had served in World War II, were happy to share their stories with the students.
